Welcome from the Program Director
Dear Internal Medicine Residency Applicants –
We, the Internal Medicine Residency family at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle, would like to offer a sincere welcome to you as you consider us for your residency training. We consider ourselves fortunate to be part of a small, yet dynamic group of Internal Medicine educators. Our faculty is committed to providing high quality evidence-based care while simultaneously creating a nurturing environment in which to train Internal Medicine residents. Every day we strive to improve our level of patient care, our commitment to scholarship, and our development of new physicians.
In our program, residents work closely with faculty providing care for our diverse patient population who present us with a wide variety of pathology from which to learn. Being a small program affords us opportunities for flexibility in creating new and unique learning opportunities based on resident interest. With the help of Dr. LeBrun (previous program director) we have developed a robust POCUS curriculum which is now being implemented across various settings throughout the program. As a relatively young program we also do not have long standing “traditions” that are done just because that is the way we have always done it. However, we now have enough time under our belts to have eliminated some things that do not work and have systems in place that run more smoothly than when the program was brand new.
In addition, we are firmly rooted in our community and fully committed to the health of our region. Our hospital provides care for patients from a large part of north Mississippi and western Alabama. With the 2023-2024 academic year we are increasing our involvement in community events and providing more education and assistance to the community outside the walls of our hospital campus. Beginning in January 2024 our residents will begin routinely working in the Good Samaritan clinic which is a clinic for the uninsured and underinsured from the Golden Triangle region.
Columbus, Mississippi (where our hospital is located) and the surrounding Golden Triangle area (our region of Mississippi in which Starkville, West Point, and Columbus form a triangle) is a small, friendly community with beautiful surroundings. Joining our Internal Medicine residency family is a commitment to the people of this area and a commitment to helping grow our program. We are seeking residents who are self-motivated learners willing to work to provide care to the people of our community.
Again, we thank you for considering our program. If you are ready for the challenge and want to be part of this team, then come check us out.
